The following is from the Dec. 12 meeting of the Laguna Beach Unified School District’s Board of Education.
School revenues fall with property values
Representatives from Vavrinek, Trine, Day and Co. presented the major findings in this year’s district audit.
They noted that the district’s reserves were healthy, and they had no major items of concern to report.
Board member Theresa O’Hare noted that the percentage of annual revenues was down compared to previous years, which the auditors attributed to a decline in property values.
Norma Shelton, assistant superintendent for business services, then presented the district’s first interim report.
She also spoke about how the decline in property values affected the growth in annual revenues.
“I fear it is our last double-digit year,” she concluded.
LBHS student competitors honored
Laguna Beach High School Principal Don Austin honored athletes in the school’s Boys’ Cross Country and Girls’ Volleyball teams, as well as students participating in the school’s new mock trial program.
SchoolPower presents district $250K in funds
Representatives from SchoolPower presented $250,000 in funds to the district.
They also gave fat envelopes containing holiday “treats” to the principals, to be distributed to all faculty; each teacher received at least $200 to spend on their classroom.
