KIDS TALK BACK:People project

The Huntington Beach Independent asked The Pegasus School fifth-grade class what they enjoyed about dressing up and pretending to be a famous character in U.S. history in class.

“It’s really interesting to be an architect, and that set my goal for what I want to be in life. Nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it long enough.”

Mackin Carroll (Frank Lloyd Wright), 11, Huntington Beach

“You learned while you looked up the history and the places. [Parker] is someone totally different from my personality, and it’s the one time I got to be like someone I am not.”

“It’s cool to learn a lot about a certain thing ….Jordan had to work hard, and he was respectable.”

Kevin Taheri (Michael Jordan), 11, Newport Coast

“Having to give a speech was more fun than just sitting in class and hearing a teacher just tell you. The disease [Annie Oakley] died from, I didn’t know, I thought she died of old age.”

Shoshana Rist (Annie Oakley), 11, Long Beach

“[Anthony] fought for women’s rights…. It was fun to learn about the history behind her life and how a woman didn’t have that many rights back then.”

Amber Bragdon (Susan B. Anthony), 10, Fountain Valley

“[Crazy Horse] was really brave and always tried to be a better person, fighting for what was best for his tribe, pretty selfless.”

Jack Williamson (Crazy Horse), 10, Newport Beach
