A fire in a two-story Corona del Mar home caused $25,000 in property damage Monday afternoon, but no one was hurt, according to Newport Beach firefighters.
The blaze broke out at about 3:15 p.m. in the 300 block of Poinsettia Avenue. When firefighters arrived at the house, they saw smoke and flames coming out of a rented room upstairs in back of the home. It took 19 firefighters 20 minutes to put down the fire, though salvage and investigation continued into the evening.
Investigators traced the fire’s origin to a closet, though they have not yet determined the cause.
The resident renting the room was not home when the fire started, according to a news release from the Newport Beach fire department.
