Concordia def. Vanguard
IRVINE — Vanguard’s Kim Wynn produced 13 kills and 12 digs, but No. 2-ranked Concordia won, 30-24, 30-20, 30-27, in the first round of the NAIA Region II Tournament on Tuesday.
Shardai Sublett had 10 kills and Breeann Peterson added 37 sets for the No. 7-ranked Lions, who finish their season 15-14. Michal Shortridge added nine kills and nine digs.
SOCCER PLAYOFFS
The Orange Coast College men’s and women’s soccer teams have earned an invitation to the first round of the Southern California Regionals.
The men’s soccer team, seeded ninth in the 12-team regionals, will travel to El Camino to face the No. 8 seed Warriors on Saturday, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
The first four seeds earned a first-round bye.
The Pirates (9-7-6) and Warriors (15-7-2) did not face each other this season.
In the women’s soccer playoffs, the 13th-seeded Pirates (13-7-1) will play at fourth-seeded Ventura (18-2-1) on Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m.
It will be OCC’s second trip to Ventura. The Pirates fell to Ventura 4-2, in the second game of Coast’s season on Sept. 1.
Orange Coast was just one of three teams to score more than one goal against Ventura this year.
