Man suspected of stealing sex toy

A Costa Mesa man was booked at Costa Mesa Jail on Friday night after he reportedly stole a sex toy from Condom Revolution on Newport Boulevard, Sgt. Mike Ginther said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of petty theft and malicious mischief for damaging property in a bicycle shop.

According to police, just after 5 p.m. a man ran into the store, grabbed a sex toy and ran out with it in hand. Employees chased the thief as he jumped on a bike and rode through the back door of the bicycle shop. As the thief rode through the bicycle shop, he knocked merchandise over and damaged property, Ginther said. As he attempted to exit through the shop’s front door, he was captured by employees who held him until police arrived, Ginther said.

The man police arrested told them his name was George Barillas and that he was 24 years old, but police were unable to positively confirm that late Friday since Barillas gave them a birth date that didn’t match, Ginther said.
