Costa Mesa Police said Wednesday it would step up patrols around 19th Street on the Westside after a Costa Mesa man was stabbed in the chest and robbed of hundreds of dollars, police said.
After walking to their apartment from a bar, a man 23, and his brother 21, were approached by a group of men outside their apartment in the 800 block of West 19th Street, Sgt. Marty Carver said. One man in the group demanded that the 23-year-old hand over money, but when he refused, an attacker stabbed him in the upper chest, Carver said.
The suspect made off with a “couple hundred dollars” and the 23-year-old was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach where his stab wound was stitched up and he was later released, Carver said. The younger man was not injured.
Police have no suspect information at this time, Carver said.
