SOUNDING OFF:Senior center in park would incur expense, traffic

It would strike me as funny if it weren’t so serious that the local papers always print stories from the good old boys.
Yes, they may print short letters from us little nobodies. But the good old boys sure get plenty of space, but then again they have plenty of money and feel they own this city. Still, a lot of us have lived here just as long as they have, though we may have started living here at a much younger age.
I may be a little prejudiced since I live near Central Park, but it is really silly to think that this senior center would not impact our neighborhood. We are already impacted every weekend; people going to the park fill our neighborhood with cars. Now, you’re going to have seniors driving, taking the bus or being dropped off. Not to mention the intention of renting this “senior center” for banquets, receptions, private parties, etc., which is seldom mentioned. Will our seniors not be able to use their senior center when on Saturday Betty and Bob are having their wedding reception there? Then Sunday, I guess, is off limits if a local youth group is having a convention of 5- to 18-year-olds. Not to mention sports teams and company functions, just to name a few events that occur every day.
How interesting that on our ballot is no mention of cost. Does the city feel that may scare everyone, seniors included?
Our great residents deserve all the pertinent facts when trying to make such a monumental and permanent change to a place that is meaningful to all who use and love the park as it is. Full disclosure would make for a more informed decision.
I think Mayor Dave Sullivan and his friends are a little too close and involved in this senior center to be making the decisions about it.
I feel as long as these good old boys (and girls), with their money (including city money, I am sure) and clout run the city, they determine what happens — even though a lot of seniors have voiced their opinion not to place the senior center there.
