A Huntington Beach man was arrested Sunday after leading police on a chase through a local neighborhood, police said.
The driver was Guadalupe Martinez, 26, of Huntington.
At 5:54 p.m. police received a call of someone erratically driving near Newland Street and Warner Avenue. The caller reported that the driver was yelling at children and chasing them with his vehicle, a green Suburban.
Officers attempted to pull Martinez over. Instead, he led them on a less than 5-minute chase, ending in the Lowe’s parking lot on Warner, where an off-duty officer fired three times at the car, Lt. Craig Junginger said.
Martinez was not injured and surrendered to the officers at that time.
How the off-duty officer got to the scene still remains unclear, police said.
Martinez was arrested for allegedly evading police, driving while under the influence and assault with a deadly weapon.
