LETTER TO THE EDITOR:Return Triangle Square to family-friendly roots

Regarding Triangle Square:

There once was a time when our entire family, all six of us, would pile in our big van on a Friday night to go to Triangle Square.

We always had a hard time choosing among famous Johnny Rockets for some of the best hamburgers ever and the fun entertainment they provided while eating our meal, or the Chinese buffet next door, or the pizza place with delicious salads, sandwiches, soups and pasta.

Often, we would either eat inside (if at Johnny Rockets) or outside and then enjoy all the fun and entertaining bands that would play. It was a real “knee-slapping time” and often you would see the children or some adults even get up and dance and just enjoy the evening together.

Downstairs was a great place to pick up a new book or magazine at the bookstore so that if dancing wasn’t your thing, you could relax and read at one of the many tables surrounding the large patio area.

Plus, after dinner and the fun, family entertainment, you could go to the movie theater, which is still there, and catch a great family movie. You even could buy a big bag full of candy on the way in at the candy store that was also right there.

Wow! those were the days.

But slowly, one by one, restaurants, the candy store, the grocery store, the entertainment — all the things that made it fun for family night — left Triangle Square. We cited “poor management” and considered it a terrible loss for many families.

So the Pilot asked, “What should the new owners of Triangle Square do to revitalize the mall?” I couldn’t imagine a better fun family place to go than if the new owners would consider making Triangle Square a great family place once again!

We would love to see another Johnny Rockets and several other family-friendly buffets and take-outs. And let’s invite all those talented bands to return! Let’s give the children and light-hearted adults a chance once again to get up and enjoy good times together or create a nice social area for meeting new friends or relaxing and enjoying some reading.

Allow Triangle Square to become the place where families love to be again, not just the “elite.”

As for my husband and myself, most of our six children are now grown, but we still have two little girls we care for along with several grandchildren and would love to start going back to fun, family evenings at Triangle Square.
