HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP:Lightning girls tennis does it again

SANTA ANA — The Sage Hill School girls’ tennis team beat Mater Dei, 11-7, at Mater Dei Wednesday, topping the Division I Monarchs for the second year in a row.

The Lightning (9-0, 1-0 in league), currently the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division IV, had Stephanie Langer and Sarah Geocaris sweep their singles sets and Jaclyn Smrecek and Alle Hsu did the same at No. 1 doubles.

Sage Hill has an Academy League match at Fairmont Prep on Friday.

Sage Hill 11, Mater Dei 7

Singles -- Langer (SH) def. Cox, 6-2, def. Maneino, 6-3, def. Ghassemi, 6-1; Geocaris (SH) won, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0; Adams (SH) won, 6-0, 6-3, lost, 1-6.

Doubles -- Smrecek-Hsu (SH) def. Noebel-Noebel, 6-2, def. Kawabe-Chomeau, 6-3, def. Barquen-Kawabe, 6-3; Cummings-Andrews (SH) lost, 1-6, 1-6, 4-6; Dokich-Spivack (SH) lost, 6-7, 0-6, 0-6.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

CdM 11, Peninsula 7

PALOS VERDES — Hayley and Miranda Young swept their doubles sets on Wednesday at Peninsula High in a nonleague match for the Sea Kings (9-0, 1-0).

Corona del Mar is currently ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division I, while Peninsula is ranked No. 4.

The Sea Kings have a key Pacific Coast League match today at Laguna Hills.

Doubles -- Kaiden-Zotovich (CdM) lost to Aston-Chen, 4-6, lost to Kitamura-Steinhauer, 4-6, def. Coleman-Tam, 7-6; Ishii-Matsuoka (CdM) lost, 6-7, 2-6, won, 6-1; Young-Young (CdM) won, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Estancia 211, Laguna Beach 235

COSTA MESA — Senior Caroline Clements was medalist with a four-over-par 39, helping Estancia (7-0, 4-0 in league) take a key Orange Coast League match on Wednesday at Mesa Verde Country Club.

Bridget Gleason, Lina You and Taylor West all shot 41 for Estancia, and Kim Haycraft (49) also scored. Coach Art Perry said Estancia now has the inside track for the league championship.

The Eagles play Nevada state champion Pahrump High on Monday at 9 a.m. at Mesa Verde.

Newport Harbor 221, Irvine 221

IRVINE — Conditions became dark and the teams agreed to a tie in a nonleague match on Wednesday at Oak Creek Golf Club.

Sophomore Tiffany Kim shot five-over-par 41 to lead the Sailors (7-1-1). Also scoring for Newport Harbor were Kendall Horn (43), Lauren Draganza (43), Ali Thomas (45) and Morgan Moody (49).

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Corona del Mar 9, Edison 8

CORONA DEL MAR — Greg Sanford, Mike Berry and Nick Jones all scored two goals to lead the Sea Kings to a close nonleague win at Corona del Mar High on Wednesday.

Jake Schwartz, Ryan Hultman and Mark Haskell added goals for Corona del Mar (5-4), which hung on after a 5-1 halftime lead.
