COSTA MESA — Rachel Housepain scored 30 seconds into the Lions’ Golden State Athletic Conference opener, and Vanguard went on to the victory.

Housepian scored again in the 17th minute off Emelia Miller’s corner kick. In the 20th minute, Heather Hutton’s cross pass was booted in by Jenna Lindsay — her first career goal.

SAN DIEGO — Freshman Kelsey Wirt’s 10 kills and 13 digs were not enough to knock off No.-15 ranked Point Loma in a Golden State Athletic Conference match Tuesday.

Sophomore Breeann Peterson added 18 assists and 11 digs for Vanguard (7-7, 0-6 in conference).
