SUE BLOCKBURGER
Longtime Costa Mesa resident Sue Blockburger died Aug. 13 of natural causes. She was 88.
Born in 1918 in Humboldt, Ariz., Blockburger was a physical education matron at Newport Harbor High School before she retired.
She is survived by three sons, Bob and Rod Van Sickle and Gary Blockburger; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pacific View Mortuary arranged private services.
JOHN EDWARD RICE
Memorial services are scheduled Monday and Tuesday for John Edward Rice of Costa Mesa. He died Aug. 14 of natural causes. He was 82.
Rice was born in Colon, Panama, in 1923 and was retired from the U.S. Navy. He lived in Costa Mesa for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; four sons, John, Michael, James and Timothy; two daughters, Rosemary and Susan; and seven grandchildren.
A vigil will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, and a Mass is scheduled at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1015 Baker St., Costa Mesa.
