Taking one step at a time

These days, Hiba Shublak seems to be everywhere. The Newport Beach resident and fitness trainer recently traveled to Malaysia to work with dance instructors, and she’s led classes around Orange County for more than a decade. On Friday, the Lebanon native visited Save Our Youth’s new girls’ program to lead a dozen students through the steps of hip-hop dancing.

For an hour or so, the study area at the Costa Mesa center turned into a dance floor, as Shublak powered up the speakers and taught the girls some of her favorite moves.

“I know it’s a little scary because you’re here with your friends,” the trainer told some of the shy girls early on. “But we’re just learning how to dance.” And to help break the ice, Shublak even got some of the adults to join in.
