Southern California catches a wave -- a heat wave

Hot enough for you? You’re not alone.

During the past week, Newport-Mesa (and Southern California, as well) has been in the grip of a heat wave. Temperatures in Newport Beach hit 90 degrees on Tuesday, shattering the old record for that day. The sun has been beating down, air conditioners have been humming and the beaches have started to fill.

So much for June gloom. It was more like June bloom to finish out the month.

Of course, this is why we all live here, right? Heat, sunshine and the call of the waves crashing on the sand (hopefully with some decent shape and maybe just a tad warmer than they’ve been, thank you very much) are what summer is all about here.

Not to mention more than a few fall, winter and spring days, too.

Forecasters say this round of mercury-raising weather will stick around until the end of the week. And then it’s back to high 60s and mid-70s.

Then we can talk about how cold it is!
