Taylor collects discus crown

SACRAMENTO ? Newport Harbor High senior Bo Taylor won the boys’ discus throw and was fifth in the shot put at the prestigious Golden West Track and Field Invitational at Folsom High on Sunday.

Taylor, who was second at the CIF State Championships in both events, threw the discus 205 feet, 1 inch to top the field.

Korion Morris, a senior at Renton High in Washington was second with a mark of 196-7.

Taylor put the shot 59-9 3/4 in an event won by Luke Pinkelman, a junior at Cozad High in Nevada. Pinkelman’s mark was 61-10 1/2 .

Corona del Mar High junior Sarah Cummings finished eighth in the girls’ 3,200 meters at the same meet.

Cummings’ time was 11 minutes, 3.60 seconds.

Katie Vanatta from Ralston High in Colorado, won the 3,200 in 10:16.18.
