Mutiny of Region 55 capped its season Saturday by defeating the Funky Monkeys of Region 1335, 2-1, in an AYSO girls’ under-10 Division match.
The win kept Mutiny undefeated on the season and earned the squad a second-place finish in the division.
Mutiny also had the best goals-against ratio of any team in the division.
The first quarter ended with no score as Mutiny forwards Danielle Kutinsky and Simone Corkett peppered the net.
Following a scoreless first quarter, the Funky Monkeys dominated the second quarter, but it was Katie Gainous of Mutiny who took a direct shot and tapped the ball into the bottom-right corner of the net to make it a 1-0 game.
Mutiny threatened to score again, but Eli Usher had a shot on goal slapped down by Funky Monkeys keeper Sumer Rahe.
The Funky Monkeys’ offense managed to score before the end of the half to tie the game at 1-1.
Mutiny could not connect on the go-ahead score in the early stages of the second half, as their first three shot attempts of the half sailed over the net or hit the goalpost. They did take the lead on a textbook corner kick when Dana Conlisk lofted the ball to the center of the net, and Mallory Koci was there to drive in what turned out to be the winning goal.
Keeper Alex Holloway, stopper Natalie Anzivino and defenders Jessyca Lackey and Ariel Thelander didn’t allow the Funky Monkeys to score in the second half.
The Funky Monkeys were led on defense by Haley Bates, Nancy Chavez, Kara Peacock, Katie Brault, Nicole Howes and Kendal Maack.
