Lions’ men advance

MOBILE, Ala. ? The Vanguard University men’s tennis team defeated Cedarville of Ohio, 9-0, in the first round of the 24-team NAIA National Championships on Monday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Vasileios Psyrras won at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while fellow Lions Gregory Chevalier (No. 2) and Michael Martin (No. 6) won 12 of 13 games in singles.
Dieter Weislmaier won, 6-1, 6-1, William Strom won, 6-1, 6-2, and Andreas Reckziegel won, 6-3, 6-0, in singles.
Chevalier and Strom teamed to win defeat Kevin Furst and Jared Michanski, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.
The No. 10-seeded Lions (10-11) meet No. 7-seeded Lindsey Wilson of Kentucky at 1 p.m. in today’s second round.
