Locals aplenty in CIF action

No fewer than four Newport-Mesa boys’ volleyball teams, as well as three boys’ tennis teams, will compete in CIF Southern Section playoff action today.

The No. 2-seeded Costa Mesa High boys’ volleyball team (20-5) plays host to Warren in a Division III second-round clash at 7 p.m.

In another Division III contest, No. 3-seeded Estancia (18-9) hits the road to face Palos Verdes tonight at 7, while Corona del Mar (25-5), the No. 2 seed in Division II, plays host to Yucaipa for a 7 p.m. meeting.

Sage Hill (8-9) is at home to face Chadwick in a Division V showdown at 7.

On the tennis courts, Corona del Mar (16-4) visits No. 4-seeded Dana Hills for a Division I quarterfinal at 3 p.m. at the Laguna Niguel Racquet Club.

Sage Hill (13-9) plays host to No. 3-seeded Palos Verdes in a Division V quarterfinal at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.

Estancia (17-2) also earned a home date in Division V. The Eagles, who won on games in Saturday’s second round, meet Cate at Mesa Verde Country Club.

In addition, the best of the best in Newport-Mesa swimming will be competing in the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet at Belmont Plaza.
