Local boys win own pool tourney

Laguna Beach’s 12-and-Under boys’ water polo A team laid claim to the sixth annual Long Beach Water Polo Tournament championship by defeating Capistrano Valley, 10-5, in the event’s final.

Capo Valley matched Laguna goal-for-goal early, as the teams fought to a 3-3 tie. But then Nolan McConnell and Nicky Brunner took over for Laguna, their combined scoring leading the host team to the lead for good.

Dylan Payne added the final goal for Laguna on a shot from the outside.

In the opening rounds of the tournament, Laguna routed Huntington Beach, 10-1, and Chino Hills, 13-3. Leading the scoring barrage in two wins was McConnell, Brunner, Payne, Riley Browne, Jase Campos, Camron Hauer and Tommy Renner.

Erik Henrikson played keeper for Laguna.
