Sailors sixth at tournament

SAN DIEGO ? Newport Harbor High’s boys’ volleyball team finished sixth in the Silver Division at the San Diego Tournament of Champions on Saturday at Francis Parker School.
The Sailors defeated Edison in the round of 16, 25-19, 28-30, 15-8, before losing to Valencia of Valencia, 25-17, 23-25, 15-13. Newport Harbor then defeated Woodbridge, 20-25, 25-23, 15-8, before losing to Rancho Bernardo in the fifth-place match, 25-20, 25-23.
Brett Auer led the Sailors with 37 kills on Saturday, followed by Tucker Peleuses with 24 kills.
Corona del Mar took 10th place in the same division, losing to Woodbridge (23-25, 25-22, 15-13), defeating Clovis West (26-24, 28-26) and losing to Edison (19-25, 25-20, 15-12). Adam Smith had 12 kills in the victory over Clovis West.
In Friday’s pool play, Newport Harbor defeated Oak Park and San Clemente in three games, lost to St. John Bosco in three games and swept Mount Carmel.
