Lions in a sweep

COSTA MESA ? Krystal Keltner and Krista Mahan combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Vanguard University softball team swept a nonconference doubleheader against La Sierra University on Wednesday.
The Lions (8-4) won the opener, 8-0, and took the second game, 7-2.
Keltner and Mahan struck out a combined nine batters in the opening game, facing just two over the minimum. Rachel Bomgren scored three times and drove in two runs for Vanguard in the game, while Ashley Ocasio and Jade Christensen each scored twice.
In the second game, Jennifer Rynda had three hits and Heather Durham added two hits and two runs for the Lions. Lindsay Emmel pitched four shutout innings in relief of Jenna Willis, striking out five and allowing one hit.
The Lions play host to Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday at noon.
