Lions claim third

SANTA BARBARA -- Vanguard University took sole possession of third place in the Golden State Athletic Conference with a 79-74 victory over Westmont College in men’s basketball Tuesday night.

The Lions (17-9, 11-5 in conference) entered the game tied with the Warriors for third place. Vanguard took a six-point lead at halftime and extended it to as many as 16 points.

Horace Wormely played all 40 minutes and scored a team-high 19 points, adding six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Lions, who shot 51% from the field, play host to Fresno Pacific Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
