Police seek citizens on patrol

The Huntington Beach police department will hold its 25th Citizen Academy starting Feb. 28.
The program, conducted over a 13-week period, is designed to increase public understanding of the police department.
Students will learn from departmental experts in the areas of patrol and traffic operations, criminal law, narcotics, SWAT, K-9, AERO operations and other fields. All students will be able to participate in one ride-a-long during the academy.
The Huntington Beach Police Department is seeking citizens throughout the community to participate. Whether you live or work in Huntington Beach, your attendance is welcome.
You must be at least 18 years of age and pass a background check. All interested persons must complete an application. Students are assigned to the next available session. The deadline for the next class is Feb. 21.
The class will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and run from Feb. 28 to May 16. For more information or an application, contact officer Tim Martin at (714) 375-5140 or e-mail [email protected].
In best possible ‘Taste’
Get your tickets now for the 6th annual “Taste of Huntington Beach.” The event will serve tastes from more than 50 of the city’s favorite eateries and more than 30 nationally recognized wineries and breweries. It will be from noon to 4 p.m. April 23 at the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa.
The Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt will be the scene once again as the Huntington Beach Restaurant Assn. raises money for the Children’s Wing of the Huntington Beach Central Library.
Additionally, the Taste features an extensive silent auction, raffle prizes and live musical entertainment.
Tickets are presale for $50 through April 16 and include $5 beach-side parking for those not wishing to use valet service at the Hyatt. Otherwise, tickets are $60 at the door.
