Ocean View boys basketball pummels Santa Ana, 60-28.Consistency was the name of the game for the Ocean View High boys’ basketball team when it opened up play in the Golden West League.
Getting key performances from several players, the Seahawks began the league race with a 60-28 thrashing of host Santa Ana.
The Seahawks raced to a 31-12 halftime lead and were in control the rest of the way.
They did it with balanced scoring and rebounding.
They also did it while leading scorer Brad Sweezy didn’t score a basket until the fourth quarter.
The 6-foot-7 senior forward is averaging double figures in both scoring and rebounding.
Teammates Diego Delgado, Wynton Johnson and Broxton Dawson had the game under control, however.
“It was wonderful to see everyone step up and take charge,” Ocean View co-head coach Jimmy Harris said. “Brad didn’t get his first points until that fourth quarter, yet he still did his damage.
“Everybody who went on the court for us really did a nice job. Diego was as consistent as ever, Wynton Johnson was great in the low post, and Broxton Dawson hit his free throws and really gives us a big presence inside.”
Ocean View next plays at defending league champion Estancia at 7 p.m. Friday.
“It’s a big game for us, but so is every game in this league,” Harris said. “If you overlook anybody, you’ll get bit.
“Our goal is to go out and continue to establish consistency on the court. We had it against Santa Ana, and that’s what we’ll be looking to do against Estancia.”
