Laguna ends season with win over Eagles. The Laguna Beach High frosh/soph football team completed one of its best seasons in recent school history on Nov. 10 by defeating visiting Calvary Chapel, 13-7.
The Breakers came back from a 7-0 halftime deficit to pick up the win, which earned them second place in the Pacific Coast League and a final record of 7-3.
Laguna began its comeback on its first possession of the second half. The Breakers went 72 yards on 12 plays, capped by a one-yard touchdown run by sophomore tailback Kameron Pearson. Freshman John Snedegar added the extra point to tie the game.
The Breakers took the lead for good midway through the fourth quarter when sophomore Armand Begay intercepted an Eagles’ pass and returned it 82 yards for a touchdown.
“Throughout the year, our lineup continually changed due to players being called up to varsity, injuries or moving out of town,” Laguna coach Rob Wood said. “The majority of our starters in our last game either didn’t start earlier in the year or were playing different positions than they had been playing all year.
“I am so proud of their effort. They remained focused and intense. Even when we fell behind, they became even more resolved to finish the year with a win. I think Armand [Begay] was probably the most vocal, and he backed up his words by making the game-winning play.”
