CdM places 5th

high school roundupCHINO -- Katie McKitterick shot an 8-over-par 80 to lead the Corona del Mar High girls golf team to a fifth-place finish at the CIF Southern Divisional Monday at El Prado Golf Course.

Jonna Kim (82), Jessica Milner (85), Courtney Wright (85) and Kelly Kawata (86) rounded out the scoring for the Sea Kings (418), who were three strokes shy of fourth-place finisher Gahr. The top four teams advance to the finals Thursday at Indian Hills Golf Club in Riverside.

Corona del Mar shot the lowest score in school history in CIF play, while all five girls carded scores in the 80s for the first time in school history.

Bridget Gleason shot 87 to lead Estancia (464) to a 12th-place showing, while Lina You (88), Caroline Clements (89), Taylor West (99) and Lauren Cushing (101) also carded scores for the Eagles.

University (398) finished first, followed by Aliso Viejo (407) and Northwood (411).

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Pacific Coast League finals

CORONA DEL MAR -- Second-seeded Corona del Mar High senior Rachael Miller qualified for the CIF Southern Section Individual tournament with a runner-up singles finish at the Pacific Coast League finals Monday.

Miller lost to top-seeded McCall Jones of Tesoro, 6-0, 6-0, in the final.

The CdM doubles team of twins Hayley and Miranda Young lost to Lindsay Kinstler and Claire Rietsch of Laguna Beach, 6-1, 6-0, in the doubles final.

The Young sisters also qualified to the CIF Individual tournament.

CdM’s Michelle Atkins defeated teammate Flora Lee, 8-6 (eight-game, pro-set format), in a third-place singles matchup.

CIF individual play begins Nov. 19 at a location to be determined.
