UCI upsets Stanford

for monday’s editionIRVINE -- The UC Irvine men’s water polo team, ranked No. 6 in the NCAA, upset No. 3-ranked Stanford, 8-5, behind three goals from senior Nate White Sunday at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
All of White’s goals came in the first half, when the Anteaters (14-10, 4-2 in conference) built a 5-3 lead.
Senior Dreason Barry and junior Tim Hutten had two goals each for the hosts.
Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Garcia had 10 saves for UCI.
Stanford, coached by former Corona del Mar High boys head man John Vargas, received one goal from CdM High product Marcello Pantuliano, a junior driver.
The Cardinal fell to 15-5, 4-2.
