Lions go overtime for win

OAKLAND -- Vanguard University’s men’s basketball team rebounded from an opening loss to defeat Dominican University, 75-71, in overtime on Saturday.

The Lions pulled away in the extra period behind the play of Horace Wormely and Brian Roberts. Wormely scored a game-high 25 points and Roberts made a crucial three-pointer in overtime.

Roberts finished with 13 points and three three-pointers, and De’Auonte’ Johnson added 14 points for Vanguard (1-1).

San Diego Christian

COSTA MESA -- Kim Wynn had 14 kills and 12 digs to lead the Lions to a 30-14, 30-27, 30-16 sweep of San Diego Christian in a Golden State Athletic Conference match.

Michal Shortridge added 14 kills and Keri Dehaas had 17 kills for Vanguard (21-10, 8-10 in conference).

LONG BEACH -- Trisha White had a team-high 11 kills and Christa Conom added 22 assists, but the Anteaters (9-16, 2-8) fell to the 49ers, 30-22, 30-19, 30-20, Saturday in a Big West Conference match.

MEN’S SOCCER

UC Davis 2, UC Irvine 1

DAVIS -- Anthony Hamilton scored his seventh goal in the past three games, but the host Aggies rallied to win a Big West Conference contest.

Hamilton scored in the 30th minute, taking a free kick from Christopher Klotz and firing the ball off a defender and into the goal.

UC Davis’ Quincy Amarikawa responded, scoring in the 59th and 62nd minutes to put the Aggies ahead for good.

Ryan Mathy recorded two saves for the Anteaters (10-5-3, 6-1-1).

MEN’S SWIMMING

Big West Shootout

IRVINE -- UC Irvine’s men went 0-3 in dual meets -- losing to Brigham Young, Hawaii and Washington -- on the final day of the event.

UCI won the men’s 400-meter medley relay (3:20.58) and Randall Tom captured the 200-meter individual medley (1:52.65).

IRVINE -- UC Irvine’s women went 0-4 in dual meets -- losing to Stanford, Hawaii, Washington and UC Davis -- on the final day of the event. Ashley Depaul had a second-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly (2:03.68).
