Girls’ tennis jumps into first, and girls’ volleyball is fourth. Boys’ water polo team ranks ninth. The Laguna Beach High girls’ tennis team has ascended to the top of the heap in the CIF-Southern Section Division I poll.
The latest poll was released Monday by the Southern Section office in Los Alamitos.

The Breakers, who were coming off a victory over No. 5 Corona del Mar a day before upending Peninsula, had been ranked third behind the Panthers and No. 2 Calabasas.
Peninsula came in at No. 2 in the new poll, followed by Calabasas at No. 3. The rest of the division poll included Dana Hills, Corona del Mar, Harvard/Westlake, Mira Costa, Mater Dei, Woodbridge and, tying for the No. 10 spot, Northwood and Thousand Oaks.
The Laguna girls’ volleyball team, which upended host University Tuesday to clinch the Pacific Coast League championship, is again ranked fourth in the Division IV-AA poll. As has been the case throughout the season, Marymount heads the poll, followed by Sacred Heart and La Salle.
Laguna’s boys’ water polo team is again ranked ninth in the latest Division I poll. The Breakers have been ranked in that spot for two consecutive weeks.
In boys’ cross-country, Laguna is ranked second to Orange Lutheran in the Division IV poll. In girls’ cross-country, Laguna is ranked fifth in Division IV. Orange Lutheran also heads the girls’ poll.
