Egly receives Choice Award

The local chapter of Planned Parenthood honors councilwoman for her support of reproductive rights.Planned Parenthood of Orange County honored Laguna Beach City Councilwoman Jane Egly with its Choice Award on Oct. 27 at the 40th anniversary celebration for Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties.
The award was given for “significant commitment and leadership on behalf of women’s reproductive health.”
Sandra Tsing Loh, political satirist and commentator, provided the keynote speech at the Grand Newport Plaza Turnip Rose.
Egly is a law professor who has taken a leadership role in Orange County politics. In November 2004 she was elected to the Laguna Beach City Council.
She has been a generous donor and served on the group’s board for six years. During her terms as board chairwoman, she led a large contingent to Washington, D.C., for the March for Women’s Lives.
Egly was raised in Maryland and North Carolina. She came to California in 1972 and to Orange County in 1978. She has lived in Laguna for over 20 years. She is married to Paul Egly, and they have three children, Patti, Paul and Annie.
“My involvement with Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties was very deliberate,” Egly said. “We are the organization that treats women with respect and best helps them to fulfill their broad range of reproductive choices, from taking birth control to having a safe and healthy pregnancy.
