Estancia runners reach CIF prelims

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Estancia High boys’ cross country team took first place at the Golden West League finals at Central Park Wednesday with 36 points, well ahead of second-place Santa Ana (65).
Estancia’s boys qualified for the CIF Southern Section Division III Preliminaries to be held Nov. 12.
Tito Castaneda led the way with a second-place time of 15 minutes, 22 seconds. Hector Gomez took third at 15:48, and C.J. Buchmann finished fourth with a time of 15:57. Rounding out the top five for Estancia was Enrique Vivar with a 10th-place time of 16:35 and Fernando Orosco with a 17th-place time of 16:57.
The Estancia girls also advanced to the CIF Division III prelims by taking third place with 57 points, three points behind second-place Santa Ana.
Sydney Barloon finished third overall at 18:57 and Paula Negrete took sixth with a time of 19:15 for the Eagles. Sindi Ramirez (15th), Karina Rios (16th) and Magali Onofre (17th) all finished in less than 21 minutes.

CORONA DEL MAR -- The Sea Kings officially clinched the Pacific Coast League title with the victory Wednesday. It marks CdM’s ninth consecutive league championship.
The doubles teams of Danielle Kaiden and Lindsay Zotovich, and Haley and Miranda Young swept for the Sea Kings (17-3 overall, 11-1 in league).
Rachael Miller and Michelle Atkins swept in singles for CdM.

Corona del Mar 14, University 4 Singles -- Miller (CdM) def. Kao, 6-2, def. Kakuta, 6-2, def. Cheng, 6-0; Atkins (CdM) won, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0; Bryan (CdM) won 7-5; Lee (CdM) lost, 6-1, won 6-0.
Doubles -- H. Young-M. Young (CdM) def. Djen-Kang, 6-1, def. Nawlils-Ranki, 6-2, def. Jones-Martin, 6-0; Norman-McKitterick (CdM) lost, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4; Kaiden-Zotovich (CdM) won, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Newport Harbor 15,
Laguna Hills 6
LAGUNA HILLS -- Newport Harbor remained undefeated in the Sea View League with a 15-6 win Wednesday at Laguna Hills. Clay Jorth and Telford Cottam both scored four goals in the victory.
The Tars (21-5, 4-0 in league) play Foothill in a league match Friday at 4 p.m.
