Oilers tennis robs Barons

Singles players sweep in 16-2 victory.The Huntington Beach High girls’ tennis team notched its fifth victory in Sunset League play by defeating Fountain Valley, 16-2.
The Oilers domination began in singles play as juniors Stacy Kaufman and Rachel Field (who subbed for Kaufman at No. 1) and sophomores Jennifer Heumann and Monica Stupaczuk combined to sweep the Barons. Huntington’s top doubles team of junior Christina Le and sophomore Diana Le also earned a sweep.
The win improved Huntington’s league record to 5-2. The Oilers are 9-4 overall.
In girls’ volleyball, a battle between two of the top teams in the CIF-Southern Section saw host Edison take a 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 nonleague match from Mater Dei. Kari Pestolesi had 25 kills and Kelly Hyder 19 kills for the Chargers.
In cross-country, Marina finished in fourth place in the Individual Sweepstakes standings at the Mount SAC Invitational in Walnut. Senior Jesse Morrill finished in 12th-place in the race with a time of 15:18.
In boys’ water polo, Ben Sonne scored his fourth and final goal of the match in overtime as Edison upended Huntington Beach, 12-9, in a Sunset League match at El Dorado High. Andrew Kreitz scored three goals to lead Huntington.
In another Sunset League match at El Dorado, Chase Parlee scored four goals for Marina, which lost, 9-8, to Los Alamitos.
