Newport Harbor High senior Leah Robertson has verbally committed to
play water polo at Michigan, she said Monday.
Robertson, a second-team All-CIF Southern Section Division I
performer as a junior, helped Newport Harbor reach the section title
game for the second straight season.
Robertson, who helped the Sailors win the CIF Division I title in
2003, scored 45 goals in 2004.
She is a member of the U.S. junior national team and was named MVP
after helping Newport Harbor win the Hawaiian invitational in August.
Robertson said she committed Saturday while on her weekend campus
visit. She plans to sign a letter of intent on signing day, Nov. 12.
“I wanted to go to school outside of California, I love the
school, the campus and the girls on the team,” said Robertson, who
did not seriously consider any other schools. “It was the best fit.”
