Pedestrian seriously hurt when hit by car
A 55-year-old Costa Mesa man was seriously injured after being hit
by a car on Brookhurst Street south of Hamilton Street on Friday
night, police said.
The pedestrian was hit at 11:25 p.m., when he attempted to cross
Brookhurst Street several hundred feet south of the marked crosswalk.
The vehicle that struck Cochran was driven by a 17-year-old girl,
police said.
Police arrest two men after shooting
Police believe that five men involved in a shooting outside a
Huntington Beach convenience store Thursday night were negotiating a
drug deal when violence erupted, leaving two of the men hospitalized
with gunshot wounds.
Two men were arrested the night of the shooting and police said
they have identified a third man suspected of fleeing the scene, Lt.
Craig Junginger said.
“It appears through interviews and the investigation that it might
have been a narcotics transaction that may have gone bad,” Junginger
said.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired near a 7-Eleven store
at Brookhurst Street and Yorktown Avenue at 6 p.m. When officers
arrived, they found two men who had been shot multiple times in front
of a Ralphs grocery store at the nearby intersection of Magnolia
Street and Garfield Avenue.
Albert Roman and Matthew Barreto, both 19, were taken to UCI
Medical Center in Irvine, where they remained hospitalized Tuesday.
Police said the victims were not Huntington Beach residents.
Police arrested one man who was jumping a fence and attempting to
flee the scene, and the other was found inside a nearby mobile home
park.
Edward John Cruz, 19, of Anaheim, and David Almazan Figueroa Jr.,
22, of Garden Grove were arrested on charges of attempted murder.
