Newport Harbor High product Dartangan Johnson will transfer to
Missouri Southern State University to continue his collegiate
football career with the Lions.
Johnson spent the past two seasons as a running back for Santa Ana
College, where he rushed for 2,040 yards and 17 touchdowns in his two
years with the team. He lead the Mission Conference with 1,302
rushing yards as a sophomore, en route to all-conference, first-team
all-state and third-team All-America status.
He was ranked the No. 1 junior college running back for the 2005
recruiting classes by both SuperPrep.com and CollegeFootballNews.com.
Johnson set the all-time Sailor rushing record, gaining 3,397
yards on the ground during his three letterman seasons.
In 2004, Missouri Southern set more than 30 school offensive
records and became the first offense in Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association regular season history with a 3,000-yard
passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and a 1,000-yard receiver. The Lions
finished 5-6 in 2004.
