Sage Hill School graduate Laura Gordon can be mentioned with the
likes of tennis greats Monica Seles, Chris Evert, Althea Gibson and
Alice Marble, as well as golfing legends Kathy Whitworth, Mickey
Wright and Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
Those professionals were all named the Associated Press Female
Athlete of the Year in consecutive years.
Gordon, a two-sport star, has repeated as the Lightning’s Female
Athlete of the Year.
As goalie on the soccer team, Gordon was named first-team
All-Academy League and team MVP for the past three seasons. She was
also the team captain the past two campaigns. This year, she was
selected first-team All-CIF Division VI and led the Lightning to a
21-2-1 record as well as a berth in the divisional semifinals.
She anchored a Lightning squad that won three playoff games, the
school’s first in five varsity seasons, after a second-place finish
in league.
In track and field, Gordon won three league titles, including the
triple jump, long jump and 100-meter hurdles. Her best event is the
triple jump, where she is the league two-time champion. She finished
fourth at this year’s Orange County championships and won the
Division IV title with a leap of 37-2 1/4 .
