Don DuBois, the Newport Beach resident who won the 94th California
amateur championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links June 25, is one of
the favorites in the 106th Southern California Golf Association
amateur championship at Tijeras Creek Golf Course starting Friday.
It will be the fourth time the SCGA championship will be held in
Orange County. The last one was in 1995 at Santa Ana Country Club.
The 72-hole stroke play event will include 36 holes on the first
day. The original field of 84 golfers will be cut to the low 42
scorers and ties for 18 holes Saturday and Sunday.
The three-day event is the nation’s second-oldest, continuously
contested amateur golf championship.
Tim Hograth shot a 1-under-par 279 to win last year’s event at
Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles.
DuBois finished tied for ninth at Hillcrest last year.
