Polo tourney slated

The third annual men’s water polo national age-group championship
will be take place at Newport Harbor High, Corona del Mar High and
Orange Coast College beginning Friday.
The three-day event will consist of two age groups -- beginner
(born in 1993) and development (born in 1991). There will be 15
beginner teams and 16 development teams.
The top three qualifying teams from the 2004 tournament
automatically qualify for the 2005 tournament.
CdM and Newport Harbor each have two teams in the beginner age
group and Newport Harbor has one team in the development group.
Each team will play a minimum of three games throughout the
tournament.

Locals to compete
SURFING: Newport Beach residents Ford Archbold and Andrew Doheny,
along with Costa Mesa’s Allan Kincade, are scheduled to compete today
in the Surfing America USA championships at Huntington Beach.
Archbold and Doheny will be opening competition in the boys
under-14 division at 1:45 p.m., while Kincade is slated for the boys
under-18 third round beginning at 10 a.m.
Kincade advanced out of rounds one and two.
CIF hires McDavid
* ATHLETICS: The CIF Southern Section has reached an agreement
with sports protection apparel and sports medical product company
McDavid to provide equipment to the more than 550 high schools
encompassed in the Southern Section.
McDavid offers knee, elbow, back and ankle braces; pads, neck
braces and rib cages for football; as well as heating pads, ice packs
and athletic tape.
The Southern Section -- which includes Corona del Mar High, Costa
Mesa, Estancia, Newport Harbor and Sage Hill -- is the largest
section in California and ninth largest in the United States.
The prep football starts for locals Sept. 2.
