Leakage in sewer line prompts bay closure
A 50-gallon sewage spill prompted the Orange County Health Care
Agency to issue a bay water closure around the Newport Marina
apartments’ docks Monday.
The sewage leak was caused by a blockage in a private sewer line,
the agency reported. The water near the docks was closed at about
9:30 a.m. Monday. The spill could have made the water unhealthful for
people working on boats anchored at the docks.
“The biggest concern we have is not so much swimmers but the guys
who clean the boats -- underwater divers,” agency spokeswoman Monica
Mazur said.
If water samples collected Monday and today show the water is
safe, the closure could be lifted as early as today, Mazur said.
Man found dead in Costa Mesa yard
The death of a man found in the yard of a home Monday afternoon
does not appear to be suspicious, investigators said Tuesday.
A passerby called police at about 1:15 p.m. Monday to report the
body of a man in the 2200 block of Fordham Drive in Costa Mesa,
police said.
Coroners identified the man as 48-year-old Jeffery Roberts.
Roberts had no fixed address, supervising deputy coroner Kelly
Crawford said.
The cause of death has not been determined, but it is not being
investigated as a homicide, she said.
