Nothing crystal clear

yet at Crystal Cove

State Sen. John Campbell toured Crystal Cove last week, and in the

end altered a plan he’d proposed to have a nonprofit group manage the

state park.

A bill with specifics for the park is likely soon. First, though,

Campbell intends to speak with representatives from the state

Department of Parks and Recreation and the nonprofit Crystal Cove

Alliance.

Campbell said he took up the issue in response to the parks

department’s recent request for $2 million to complete the first

phase of the restoration of 46 historic cottages at Crystal Cove. He

said the state can’t afford it, but a nonprofit could raise funds to

do the work.

The work on the park, originally scheduled to be done in March, is

now expected to be completed on 22 cottages by August or September.
