OK contract

Service workers in the University of California system have voted

to accept a new union contract that includes wage increases, paid

training and chances for internal promotions.

On April 14, service workers at all UC campuses went on strike for

a day, citing unfair treatment by the university.

Shortly after the strike, the American Federation of State, County

and Municipal Employees, which represents the service workers,

reached a temporary agreement with UC officials.

Last week, workers at all campuses and medical centers voted on

the contract.

The agreement, which will stay in effect until January 2008, was

approved by 87% of workers.
