Thomsen spins no-hitter

Blake Thomsen tossed a no-hitter while reaching base three times to

lead the Padres past the Dodgers, 10-0, in a Newport Beach Little

League Majors division baseball game April 20.

JD Dawn, Gianni Ferrante, Mason Case, Mike Pawell and Mike

Moorhead scored for the Padres, while Ryan Grable was 2 for 2 with a

single and a triple. Austin Pollard and Hunter Meece made clutch

fielding plays for the Padres.

In other Newport Beach Little League play:

* Mariners 8, A’s 6

The Mariners rallied with five runs in the fourth and went on to

defeat the A’s, 8-6, in a Majors division baseball game. A’s pitcher

Mitch Gardner shut down his opponents the first four innings, but

Tommy Bubonic, Conner Gaal, Cole Blower and Nick Curci led the

fourth-inning scoring spree for the Padres.

The Mariners went on to pick up three more runs in the bottom of

the fifth on hits by Liam Duddy, Michael Haeri and Gall. The Mariners

were also led by Jeff Condino and Chris Fauntleroy.

* Yankees 12, Dodgers 2

Eric Morris and Sam Cubeiro combined to record nine strikeouts and

allowed five hits in the Yankees’ 12-2 victory over the Dodgers.

Morris led the hitting attack, going 3 for 3 with a double and two

RBIs, while Cubeiro was 2 for 3 with two doubles. Brian Ford was 2

for 4.

Chase Favreau, Zac Socoloske, Reign DeLuca, Brian Smith, Peter

Markel, Jack Reed and Eric Hallett contributed offensively.

The Dodgers were led by Andrew Machoskie, Ryan Banning, T.J.

Danner and Tony McCoy.

In Newport Harbor Baseball Association play:

* Islands 2, PRES Companies 0

The combined pitching of Mitchell Mendoza, Nicolas Sargeant and

Chase Kapana produced 16 strikeouts and surrendered just one hit in a

2-0 Mustang division victory over PRES Companies this past weekend.

Max Meisenheimer, Anthony Carrese and Kapana led Islands offensively.

* Creative Play 7, Toes on the Nose 5

Creative Play earned its third victory in four games with a 7-5

win over Toes on the Nose Saturday. Josh River, Grif Amies and Sean

Perrier led offensively while Charlie Gels, Amies and Rivera led the

defense.

* Back Bay Funding 4, Toes on the Nose 3

Kory Cably continued his hot hitting with two hits and two RBIs to

lead Back Bay Funding over Toes on the Nose, 4-3. Jake Prater had two

hits and scored a run, Nathan Mayhugh scored two runs and Tommy

Hennessy had a base hit to contribute to the offensive.

Kyle Flagg scored Nathan on a ground out to second base in the

fifth inning to take the lead and Kory Cably pitched two scoreless

innings to close out the game. Robert Lyons, Zachary Wade, Steven

Duhoux and Bryan Shollin all contributed to the win.

Toes on the Nose took an early lead in the first inning with hits

from Matt Carpenter, Blake Norton and Jonathan Mortimer. Toes on the

Nose tied the game in the third inning with hits from Joshua Faber

and Mason Moody.

* Back Bay Funding 6, Wells Fargo 2

Zachary Wade had three hits and scored three runs for Back Bay

Funding in a 6-2 victory over Wells Fargo in a Mustang division

baseball game on Saturday. Kory Cablay and Kyle Flagg each added two

hits and two RBIs while Bryan Shollin and Cole Chapin added hits to

lead the offensive attack.

Steven Duhoux drove in his second run of the game with a triple to

deep right field in the fifth inning. Cablay, Flagg and Robert Lyons

all pitched well, holding Wells Fargo to three hits. Tommy Hennessy,

Garrett Byers, Nathan Mayhugh and Jake Prater helped in the win. Brad

Tapfer and Chris Okey collected hits for Wells Fargo and Kyle Benter

and Dayton Cribbs scored runs.

* Arches 16, Newport Auto Center 10

With the game tied in the fourth inning, the Arches broke it open

with hits and RBIs from Tyler Kiehnle, Nelson Simons, Christian

Ochoa, Garrett Kerr and Zack Porteous in a 16-10 victory over Newport

Auto Center on Saturday. Kiehnle and Simons pitched the last three

innings for the Arches in the win. Collecting hits and runs for

Newport Auto Center were Austin Rios, Matt Mellow, Zack Beaudin and

Hamilton Randle.

* Wide Open Sportfishing 1, Growers Direct 0

Wide Open shut out Growers Direct with strong pitching by Connor

Seabold, Dalton Jensen, and Daniel Albert. Stephen Keenan, William

Fuchs and Max Newsom had hits while TK McWhertor, Shane MacGilfrey,

Chase Whiting and Josef Porter contributed for Growers.

* Sterling BMW 8, RBC Dain 1

Sterling BMW was lead by Angelo Angelides, Aaron White, Charles

Coakley, Scott Felder, AJ Swies and Trevor Lawrence, all who had hits

against RBC in an 8-1 victory this past weekend. BMW scored four runs

in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh inning to open up a

close game for Sterling BMW. RBC’s offense was lead by Dash Johnson,

Max Gerard and Nathan Eon.

BMW’s pitching was lead by Jordan Desguin, Angelides, and Jason

Wooding, who controlled the RBC offense most of the afternoon. RBC

hurlers was lead by Gerard, Schmidt and Michael Salam.

* Sterling BMW 7, Desguin Company 2

Jordan Desguin lead the offense for Sterling BMW by going 3 for 4

while Trevor Lawrence, Chris Sheppard, Angelo Angelides, and Charles

Coakley also produced big hits, as Sterling BMW defeated Desguin

Company, 7-2. Spencer O’Hara had a towering home run for Desguin to

lead their offense and Reid Johnson also got two hits.

BMW pitching was solid, lead by Angelides, Jason Wooding and

Charles Coakley. Desquin company pitchers also pitched well, lead by

Nick McCann, Sean Goodwin, Blair Luchs, and Nathan Johnson. Both

teams played well.

* Indians, Red Sox

Jeremiah Sheldon homered twice and caught two line drives while

Jack Rapillo homered, turned a double play and assisted on several

outs. Toni Holland displayed her excellence in the field along with

multiple hits. Julian Fadden, Adam Freeman, Cameron Jabara and

Jonathan Boothe hit the ball hard in each at-bat. Danny Clark, Andrew

Laidlaw and Morgan Lunsford turned in solid games.

In Costa Mesa National Little League play:

* Mets 4, Red Sox 3

Sammy Borkton scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh

inning to give the Costa Mesa National Little League Mets a 4-3

victory over the American League Red Sox in a Minor-A division

baseball game Saturday.

Borkton walked and stole second and third before scoring the run.

Christian Aguilar pitched the first six innings and struck out eight

batters. Aaron Wood pitched a perfect seventh inning. Catcher Jesse

Paz gunned down four runners trying to steal. Manolo Laguna made a

key tag out at third base.

The Mets received key hits from Wood, Aguilar, Max Hume, Daniel

Lee and Spencer Owens, who drove in two runs with a double.

* Mets 9, Angels 1

Minor-A Met pitcher Jesse Paz pitched a complete game with 13

strikeouts, limiting the Angels to four hits and one walk to lead the

Mets over the Angels, 9-1.

* Braves, Mets

The Braves team did it again, battling the Mets in a tee ball

game. Sarah Bordelon, Mat Rodgers, Gavin Kane and Kevin Volk made

outstanding defensive plays while Cameron Schirmer tagged a runner

out at home. Kane, Nicolas Favela and Joey Wakely had big hits to the

outfield. Sophie Beazley, Daniel Fortin and Liam Jason also had solid

hits.

* Rockies, Padres

The tee ball Rockies were solid at the plate against the Padres

with Nick Hendricks slugging triples in the first and second innings.

Justin Martinez hit a three-run homer and Blake Hunt connected for a

two-run homer to center.

Ian Fowler tagged a runner at second and threw to first for a

double play. Rikky Hernandez and Travis Hastings contributed key

plays on the field.

In Pacific Coast Fastpitch Softball girls under-10 play:

* Battitude 7, Grand Slammers 6

Base hits by Kirsten Rohan, Alexandra Steiner, Taylor Stefano and

Hanna Van Noorhis created multiple scoring opportunities for

Battitude, while Morgan Long, Caroline Johnso, Sam Devaney, Dana

Krekemeyer, Danielle Moran and Hope Noakes got on base and

contributed to 22 stolen bases.

* Battitude 16, Black Label Bats 4

Alexandra Steiner had a grand slam and a double, while Taylor

Stefan contributed a triple for Battitude in a 16-4 victory.
