Rotary cruises

Alek Burk continued his hot hitting streak, and Rotary continued on

its winning ways.

Burk slugged a three-run home run and doubled on two other

occasions to power Rotary over the visiting San Juan Capistrano

Dodgers, 10-5, at Riddle Field.

Rotary led right off the bat, taking a 3-0 first-inning lead.

Jake Glazer set the offense in motion with a leadoff line drive

single and went on to score on Burk’s first double.

Travis Sampson ripped a single up the middle to score Burk, and

Sampson later scored on Shane Takabayashi’s infield grounder.

But the Dodgers came back to tie the score in the top of the

third, using a pair of singles, two walks and an errant throw to knot

the game at 3-3.

Rotary, however, was up to the challenge and took the lead for

good in the bottom half of the third.

Evan Rubel drew a walk, Glazer singled, and then Burk launched his

three-run home run, which went to deep center and gave Rotary a 6-3

advantage.

Burk also pitched the first three innings and gave up two hits and

four walks to go along with five strikeouts.

Takabayashi took over mound duties for Burk in the fourth inning

and recorded three consecutive strikeouts after giving up a leadoff

walk.

In the fifth inning, San Juan Capistrano dug into its deficit when

Matt Robinson walked and scored on Doug Kavannaugh’s two-run homer,

which narrowed the score to 6-5.

The Dodgers’ Mark Reisman followed with a single and advanced to

third base, but Takabayashi struck out the next three batters.

As it did in the third inning, Rotary retaliated after the Dodgers

had scored in the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Alex LeBon, Bo O’Bryan and Glazer drew

walks, and Burk followed with his second double of the night, which

scored both LeBon and O’Bryan to extend the lead to 8-5.

After Michael Hyden drew a walk to load the bases, Sampson crushed

a two-run double, which scored both Glazer and Burk.

Working with a five-run cushion, Takbayashi sent the Dodgers down

in order in the sixth to end the game.

He finished with eight strikeouts and gave up just one hit and two

walks in his three innings of work.

With the victory, Rotary extended its win streak to seven games

and is 7-1 heading into this weekend’s action.
