An eighth-grade student from St. Bonaventure School was the winner of
a national math competition held late last year.
Katherine Mullin was the coverall school winner in the 20th annual
American Mathematics Competitions 8 contest. Her score was high
enough to place her on the competition’s Honor Roll list.
Other top competitors from the school were Dillon Linzmeyer, who
was a first-place winner; John Richardson and Casey Carey, who were
second-place winners; and Brian Fratalli, Ryan Christie and Anna
Pham, all third-place winners.
All of the winning students will receive a competition certificate
and pin at their eighth grade graduation.
The students competed with more than 150,000 students for local
and national awards in the contest, which covers middle school
mathematics and is conducted at participating schools.
The purpose of the contest is to create interest in mathematics
and develop talent through friendly competition and problem solving
in a timed format.
