In a preview of things to come, the Laguna Beach High girls’ water
polo team took on host Santa Barbara in nonleague play, a day before
the Breakers opened up tournament play at the Tournament of Champions
in Santa Barbara.
The host Dons recorded a 12-5 victory over the Breakers.
Laguna was coming off a three-week layoff. Two days later, Santa
Barbara won a rematch against Laguna, 11-6, in tournament action.
In the 12-5 loss, Addison Doud’s two goals paced a Breakers attack
that saw Jessica McKee and Breanna Duplisea each score once.
Alana Thomson had four saves.
In the latest CIF-Southern Section water polo rankings, Laguna is
ranked second in the Division II poll.
The rankings were released Monday by the Southern Section office
in Los Alamitos.
The Breakers are behind Pacific Coast League foe Corona del Mar,
which heads to poll.
Another Pacific Coast League team, University, comes in at No. 9.
The remainder of the top 10 includes No. 3 Villa Park -- whom
Laguna defeated last week at the Tournament of Champions in Santa
Barbara, No. 4 Peninsula, No. 5 La Habra, No. 6 Tustin, No. 7 Sunny
Hills, No. 8 Mira Costa and No. 10 Fullerton.
