All about a peaceful New Year’s Eve
It was a peaceful New Year’s Eve in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach.
Police from both cities reported no major arrests and few DUIs or
traffic-related incidents.
The Costa Mesa Police Department reported only one DUI and no
major arrests or public safety incidents.
In Newport Beach, Sgt. Dennis Birch said his department dealt with
five DUI arrests and one car accident on Coast Highway, which
resulted in one injury.
Birch also reported that one person was arrested on suspicion of
simple battery, and two others were taken in on suspicion of fighting
in public.
Otherwise, Birch said, the night’s festivities kicked off without
any major problems.
“Just the usual partying,” he said. “Nothing out of the ordinary
for a typical New Year’s Eve.”
