High girls basketball team to a 44-41 nonleague victory over visiting

* BASKETBALL: Playing without senior star Carlos Pinto, the

Estancia High boys basketball team lost to visiting Laguna Beach,

62-32, in a nonleague game Thursday.

Pinto sprained his right wrist in practice Wednesday and sat out

Thursday’s game. Junior Michael McDaniels led the Eagles (7-2) with

18 points, while Shaun Markley, Danny Argumedo, Hugo Escobedo and

Rafael Montillo each had two. Estancia plays Belmont Monday at 8 p.m.

in the first round of the Coast Classic at Estancia.
