Here are some of the items being discussed at the next Huntington

Beach City Council meeting:

ANAHEIM ANGELS

The City Council will consider adopting a resolution asking Arte

Moreno, owner of the Anaheim Angels Major League Baseball team, to

reconsider a plan to rename the team the Los Angeles Angels.

The name change could mean a bigger national presence for the team

and better marketing opportunities, but the city of Anaheim strongly

opposes the proposal, Moreno said.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will likely pass the ordinance, although with two new

councilmen, Don Hansen and Keith Bohr, it’s hard to predict. Bohr has

indicated that he sympathizes with Moreno’s dilemma and has even

suggested the team be renamed the So Cal Angels.

If passed, the resolution merely reflects the position of the

council and is not legally binding. Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle would

eventually forward the resolution and similar ones from Orange County

cities to Moreno.

MASSAGE ESTABLISHMENTS

The Huntington Beach Police Department is asking the City Council

to pass an ordinance updating the regulation of businesses that offer

massages.

The new law was in the works for years when it became clear that

the old ordinance needed updating, Police Chief Ken Small said. The

law is more a response to the popularity of holistic medicine and day

spas than prostitution problems at massage parlors, he said.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The issue seems noncontroversial, since most of the massage

businesses in Huntington Beach are already in compliance. It will

likely pass.
