Flu shots for seniors available today
Flu shots will be available to seniors today at the Costa Mesa
Senior Center, which will be offering the shots from 11 a.m. to 1
p.m.
The shots are only for those 65 and older, unless they have a note
from their doctor, executive director Aviva Goelman said. The center,
located at 695 W. 19th St., is asking for a $20 donation for shots.
Gary Hayakawa appointed to fair board
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Monday the reappointment of
Gary Hayakawa to the Orange County Fair & Exposition Center Board of
Directors. Hayakawa, an Irvine resident, served two previous terms
from 1992 to 2001.
He will succeed Patricia Velasquez, who was appointed in 2001. The
fair board is made up of nine volunteers who set and approve policies
for the fair and center.
Hayakawa is president of Three Star Nursery, Inc., a wholesale
nursery in Fountain Valley. The horticulturist is also president of
the Centennial Farm Foundation, an organization that works with
community volunteers, as well as the management and staff members of
the fair, to operate the farm.
He is also president of Friends of UC Extension, a nonprofit group
that helps foster cooperative extensions in Orange County, including
4-H programs for agriculture and horticulture.
