Thixton Almon

Dr. David Thixton Almon of Laguna Beach died Nov. 4 from

complications after a fall. He was 79.

Dr. Almon was born in Moulton, Ala. and has lived in California

since 1951. He was a pediatrician for 42 years.

Dr. Almon received his bachelor’s degree from Emory University and

attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham.

He served as a doctor in the U.S. Air Force. In 1966 he moved his

family to Laguna Beach, joined the staff at Hoag Hospital and started

a practice in Newport Beach where he served until he retired in 1993.

Dr. Almon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lylah; daughters

Beth and Melissa Almon; son Jeff Almon; sons in law Bill Coyle and

Gasper Patrico; sisters Mary Garner and Alice Fulmer; grandchildren

Garrett, Melissa, Bradford, Choe, Sophia, Ryan and Kyle; and many

nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Nov. 20 at St. Mary’s Episcopal

Church, 428 Park Ave.
